Great Fire of London paintings

The children worked really hard to mix the colours to create a realistic fire backdrop. We talked about how we can use different brush stroke to create different effects. Stage two was to create the silhouette. I was amazed by the fantastic cutting and design ideas. Well done everybody!

Sketching

Apologies for the delay with this blog entry I've only just realised it didn't upload. Anyway, better late than never...

Last week, we looked at lots of pictures of the houses from 1666. We closely observed the features and discussed the differences from modern day houses. The children used a range of sketching pencils, and we learnt how some pencils are softer and so create a darker colour. The children were very resourceful, thinking carefully about which pencil would be best to use. I think their pictures are amazing.. such great attention to detail in many of them. Well done everybody!

Time travelling back to 1666!

We put on our virtual reality helmets and ventured back to 1666. We imagined how the people must have felt and worked together to try and put out the fire. We used axes to make fire breaks and also worked collaboratively to try and find a way to reach safety.
